Rory Gilmore’s Routines

Morning:

6:45 AM: Wake up to the sound of your alarm after staying up far too late reading “just one more chapter.” Spend five minutes convincing yourself you can still make it to class on time.
7:00 AM: Throw on a cozy sweater, a plaid skirt or jeans, and your favorite worn in jacket. Comfort is a must in autumn.
7:15 AM: Make a mug of coffee and eat a quick breakfast while reading a few pages of whatever novel is currently living in your backpack.
7:30 AM: Brush your hair into a simple style, do a light skincare routine, and skip spending too long in front of the mirror. There are books waiting.
7:45 AM: Pack your bag, making sure you’ve got your planner, pens, current read, and at least one book you probably won’t need but refuse to leave behind (it’s for emergencies).
8:00 AM: Walk through your neighborhood with coffee in hand, stopping to say hello to familiar faces and getting pleasantly distracted by little conversations.
8:20 AM: Arrive at school a little early, settle into the library or a quiet hallway, and squeeze in a few more pages before the first bell rings.

At School:
8:20 AM: Arrival: Arrive a little early with coffee in hand. Spend a few quiet minutes in the library or reading on a bench before everyone else fills the hallways.
First Lesson / Registration: Settle in quickly, pull out neatly organized notes, and be ready before class even starts.
In Class:
- Take detailed notes with different colored pens.
- Ask thoughtful questions that keep the discussion going.
- Finish readings before they’re assigned.
- Volunteer answers when a topic genuinely interests you.
- Get completely absorbed in literature and history classes.
- Scribble reminders and thoughts in the margins of your planner.
Break Time: Browse the library shelves, catch up with friends between classes, and debate books, essays, or whatever assignment everyone is stressing about.
Lunch: Find a quiet table with your closest friends. Swap homework advice, recommend novels to each other, and talk about random topics.
Afternoon Lessons:
- Stay engaged even when everyone else starts losing focus.
- Visit the library if you have a free period. Help classmates review before quizzes.
- Keep a running to do list for essays, reading, and upcoming deadlines.
- Leave class with another book added to your ever growing reading list.
End of School:
Take your time packing up instead of rushing out.
Walk home or head into town with a friend, stopping at a Stars Hollow Books or Luke’s before finally calling it a day.

Afternoon:

3:30 PM: Stop by your favourite local café after school. Order coffee and something sweet, spread your books across the table, and spend your time studying.
4:30 PM: Wander through the town square instead of heading straight home. Pop into the bookstore, browse the shelves even if you don’t need another book, and say hello to the familiar faces you pass.
5:15 PM: Head home, drop your backpack by the door, change into something comfortable, and curl up with a novel for “just twenty minutes” before starting anything else.
5:45 PM: Tackle homework with a mug of coffee beside you. Finish one assignment, reward yourself with a chapter of your book, then repeat until everything’s done.
6:45 PM: Meet up with a friend for a walk, browse a local shop, or spend the evening talking on somebody’s living room floor until you completely lose track of time.
7:30 PM: Spend the evening watching old films, debating novels, ordering takeout, and talking with loved ones

Night:
9:30 PM: Get home, change into your softest pajamas, and immediately kick off your shoes. The day officially ends the second you’re comfortable.
9:45 PM: Order takeout if nobody feels like cooking. Eat straight from the box while talking about the day’s funniest moments, arguing over movies, or laughing about something completely ridiculous.
10:15 PM: Settle at your desk with a mug of tea or coffee and finish up any reading or homework that’s due.
10:50 PM: Take a long shower, wash your hair, and let the steam wake your brain up just enough for one more chapter before bed.
11:15 PM: Brush your teeth, do a simple skincare routine, throw on an oversized sweater, and climb back under the blankets.
11:25 PM: Read until you completely lose track of time. One chapter turns into three, and suddenly you’re promising yourself this will definitely be the last page.
12:00 AM: Put your bookmark in place, switch off the bedside lamp, and lie awake for a few minutes replaying conversations, planning tomorrow, and mentally preparing for any upcoming exams.
12:20 AM: Drift off with a novel still sitting on the duvet beside you, already looking forward to tomorrow’s coffee.

General:

Regularly: Keep a book in your bag, stay on top of your reading, make time for long conversations with the people who know you best, and never underestimate the value of a really good cup of coffee.
Whenever Possible: Visit bookstores, spend rainy afternoons in cafés, browse library shelves for longer than necessary, go to local festivals and movie nights, and say yes to spontaneous plans that turn an ordinary day into a memorable one.
Before Important Events: Pick an outfit that feels formal, gather everything you’ll need the night before, reread your notes if it’s something academic, and head out feeling prepared rather than rushed.
Whenever You Have Free Time: Read another chapter, wander through town with a coffee in hand, hunt for second hand books, watch an old film, work on a crossword, or spend an afternoon talking about books, music, and life with your closest friends.
Always: Stay curious, ask thoughtful questions, find joy in learning something new, appreciate life’s quieter moments, and believe that the best days usually begin with a good story and end with one too.
